We Buy 'Slow Fashion' Brands
A step towards helping the planet. 'Slow Fashion' is an on-going effort to counteract the waste in the textile market. It is meant to slow down the rapid pace of clothing consumption/waste. These designers only produce what is ordered with the intent for consumers to buy fewer, better quality items intended to be passed on, reused, redesigned or recycled.
These are the brands we carry.
It's easy to blame the fashion industry for the problem of fashion waste. But we, as consumers, must also take our share of responsibility. These statistics show how consumer demand has driven the rise of fast fashion.
The fashion industry produces up to 100 billion garments a year.
Only about 20% of textiles are reused/recycled globally.
Up to 92 million tons of clothing end up in landfills each year.
87% of the materials used to make clothing end up in landfills.
Plastic makes up about 60% of all new clothing materials.
... and the stats go on and on.

Extending the life cycle of clothing by a further 9 months would reduce carbon, waste & water footprints by 20-30% each.
"Buy less, choose well, make it last"
"Fashion shouldn’t cost the earth"
"Waste isn’t waste until we waste it"
In the US alone, we generate over 17 million tons of textile waste/year ~112 lbs / person.
66% of that is landfilled, 19% is burned and 15% is recycled.
We are buying 60% more clothing, only to discard each item after wearing it half as much.
Black Wagon Kids supports the 'slow fashion' movement by purchasing clothing mainly from 'slow fashion' suppliers. We seek them out. They utilize materials that can be reused/recycled cleanly. Quality that lasts for many years, with the intent to be passed on. Mostly organic or natural fibers, produced in ethical conditions where workers are treated and paid fairly.
Black Wagon Kids is trying to do our small part. As we all get more conscious and act on behalf of our conscience, the world can only change for the better.
Thanks for supporting our small business since 2006!
